Always Plan Ahead

For any trip you take, you need to plan ahead, explains Bradley Schnickel. Make sure you pack the appropriate seasonal clothing. If you’re traveling for a week, don’t bring enough for a month — you must lug all your stuff around and there is no one to help you remember.

Traveling Alone Safely

When traveling alone, safety must be the top priority. Make sure you research the area you are traveling to, says Bradley Schnickel, try to familiarize yourself with the area if it is outside the United States.

Make sure someone reliable has the information about your to and from flights (regardless of where you are traveling to), where you are staying, and when you will return. Make sure you call that person or another selected person every other day or so. This is just a commonsense safety measure because you are traveling alone.

If you were to become ill or injured and unable to make phone calls, your family and friends would have no idea.

All of this advice is especially turn if you are traveling outside of the country.

For the most part, it is safe to travel alone if you use some caution. Your vacation should not be ruined based on fear!

Find a hotel with a good reputation (the more stars the better). If there is bulletproof glass between you and the check-in clerk, keep moving and find another hotel.

If you’re out during the evening/nighttime hours, don’t announce that you are traveling alone. This can make you a victim.

If possible, take public transportation, taxis, or Uber to and from your destinations.

Finally, don’t become too friendly with strangers and never provide a great deal of personal information.

If you meet a stranger, it is also not a good idea to tell them you are traveling alone. Let that tad bit of information be your secret.

Make a list of where you want to go and what you want to see before you head out on your vacation, explains Bradley Schnickel. You may have a more enjoyable time if you find to join a group of people to enjoy a tour with. It’s always nice to have other people with the same interests talk about the tour.

Plan ahead, make sure someone knows where and when you are traveling to and from, and remember to take lots of pictures and enjoy yourself.
