College students traveling is an exciting time. It should also be a cautious time. Follow these tips for a great college traveling adventure.

You should always travel with at least one other person, explains Bradley Schnickel. Often, a group of people is even better depending on where you are going and what you are doing. If you’re leaving the United States or going on an extreme sports-type vacation, then a group of travelers is ideal. The more the merrier and the safer.

Always make sure you carry some form of ID on your person while traveling, explains Bradley Schnickel. Females tuck this ID in their pocket, purses get lost. Make a pocket is also better than a wallet that can get lost. Make sure your ID has your name and a current address on it. This information isn’t because we are assuming the worse, it is just responsible behavior.

If you will be clubbing, make sure you are within walking distance of your hotel. If you’re not, make sure someone in your party stays sober so they can guide the rest of the flock back to the hotel. Someone at the party should also have the address of the hotel written down and a few taxis or uber phone numbers, says Bradley Schnickel, just in case.

In the case of extreme sport, vacations make sure you go with at least one other person on your adventure. They are called extreme sports for a reason, and they do come with a risk. No matter how careful you are, you could still slip and fall 15 feet. While that is not long-distance, it is far enough for serious injuries, and you’ll be happy you had a buddy along on your adventure.

College students tend to follow the pack. You can be an individual and still have a great time not doing what your friends are doing. You’re an adult, making smart choices for yourself. At the same time, also look out for your not-so-smart traveling college friends.

Safety-wise, Bradley Schnickel also suggests an adult family member knows where you are and who you went with. You should also make it a habit to check on the day you arrive and when you have left and are on your way home. This isn’t so parents can keep tabs on you, it’s for your own safety,

Also, remember to lock hotel room doors, do not walk alone at night or during the day in foreign countries or even sketchy areas. Being smart will help keep you safe.
